Uncategorized 26 October 2026

The 2026 World University Shooting Championship officially kicks off in New Taipei City, Taiwan, from 27 to 31 October, following a press conference and opening ceremony held at the Gongxi Shooting Range of the National Sports Training Center. Marking the championship’s first appearance in Taiwan, the event has attracted more than 270 athletes and team officials from 19 countries and regions to compete for medals. Host nation Chinese Taipei will field 18 athletes, aiming to showcase their preparation and deliver strong performances on home soil.

At the pre-event press conference, Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation (CTUSF) President Chiu Ping-kun welcomed athletes and team officials from around the world to New Taipei City. He expressed his hope that all participants would perform at their best, achieve their goals, and enjoy the competition. Marian Dymalski, Executive Committee Member of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), highlighted that international sporting events are about more than competition and results. He also encouraged athletes from different countries and regions to connect, build friendships, and create lasting memories, emphasizing the role of sport in bringing diverse cultures and communities together.

Huang Chi-huang, Deputy Minister of Sports, attended the opening ceremony and officially ushered in five days of competition. He encouraged all athletes to perform to the best of their abilities, pursue outstanding results, prioritize safety, and enjoy the experience. The ceremony also featured a traditional Taiwanese folk performance known as “Jiang Yi,” offering participating delegations an opportunity to experience local cultural traditions alongside the sporting action. Chinese Taipei athlete Cheng Yen-ching and referee representative Wu Kuang-yu delivered the athletes’ and officials’ oaths, respectively, reaffirming their commitment to fair play, respect for the rules, and the spirit of sportsmanship as the championship got underway.

The championship features a total of 16 events across pistol, rifle, and shotgun disciplines, including both individual and team competitions. Selected finals will be streamed live on the CTUSF’s SSUtv YouTube channel and the official FISU website, allowing fans to follow the action and cheer on athletes from across the participating nations and regions.
